Modern Masters English Brown Painted Coffee Table

If you've read my blog for a while you may remember my love for metallic painted furniture.  Below is a desk I painted and did the drawer fronts in Modern Masters Warm Silver opaque paint over a texture basecoat.  I painted several items with a 6 oz container, including a small shelf, the drawer fronts on this desk and another dresser, and an accent stencil on a coffee table.  I still have some left!

If you visit the Modern Masters website prepare to be amazed by the color selection and products they offer for home décor projects.  Besides metallic paint, they also carry architectural textures, theme paints, blacklight paint, glazes, varnishes and crackles.  I have been on the website many times and I could still spend more time looking at the products and dreaming about everything I could makeover with them!

The color I used for my next project is called English Brown.  I chose it because it looks SO rich and can blend with any decor.  It has a slight grey undertone and I'm really into grey right now.

I can't find my "before" picture of this coffee table but it was basically a very dinged up wood table.  It had a lot of scratches on the top.  I loved the little drawer and it works so well, so it was a great deal for $10 at Volunteers of America.

Modern Masters is a water based paint.  It has low VOC and a very pleasant smell when you are painting with it.  I love to paint with a good brush, so metallic paint I also put on with a brush.  This paint is opaque, and coverage is very good.  I did do a base coat with a clay based paint brand I use, because I don't use stinky latex primer.  You can use latex primer as your basecoat, that is not a problem.  The instructions say you can alternatively use a roller and it can also be used in a paint spray gun!

Just look at that gorgeous shimmer!

You can see one of the big dings below the knob, but metallic paint hides dings really well.   You would think it would be the opposite!
Acrylic knobs from Liberty Hardware finish off the piece (about $4 each).

It will look great with my new light fixture!

Stay tuned for another Modern Masters project using Oyster in Semi-Opaque over a textured basecoat!

Old Church Pew Transformation

This week is a busy week for all the junkers here in Mid Michigan.  Now that the weather is finally turning around for the better, people are having yard sales and garage sales galore.  The nearby campus of MSU is filled with curbside furniture from students vacating and not wanting to move stuff.   It's a junker's paradise!

The old 8 foot church pew is actually a Craigslist pick.  I got it for a steal and it came with two old milk cans (also painted mauve).

Now for my highly distractible ways.....this is an old 1970's bike that I bought for my kids to ride but it doesn't work.  It was really rusty so I spray painted it with outdoor spray paint from Valspar (Lowe's) in peacock blue gloss.  I wanted to turn it into garden art.
The basket is from Homegoods ($6.99). I tied it to the handle bars with twine.  I want to put red geraniums in it!

Now back to the church pew...This is a side view.  I scraped it and painted it white with Reclaim bright white.   It has so many layers of paint that it looks pretty chunky but I don't care.  It's shabby and cool.

I found a bunch of colorful pillows at Homegoods to display on it at my new booth at Mega Mall in Lansing, MI.  It looks like a rainbow...I used to love rainbow colors as a kid.  I'm a straight, middle aged mom and I like rainbows!  Call me crazy.

Have  a great weekend!

Erin
