7 Resolutions, 14 Days Late

This is a long post…Sorry, in addition to ADD, procrastination, self-justification and HORRIBLE homemaker skills, I also talk TOO much! Just in case you don't want to read the LENGTHY embellishments to my 7 resolutions, just let me thank you for your awesomeness! Thanks so much for reading, for commenting and for sharing with us! I knew that crafters were the nicest people, but you constantly remind me of that every time you visit!

  1. Be nicer to the people I love the most. It sounds really backwards, but I can be the meanest to the people I love the most. I'm not aware of it consciously at the moment, but I think that I do that because I think they will love me anyway…People that I don't love or who don't love me may not like me if I were mean. Isn't that horrible? (Wow, I have really confessed to some horrible things this week!) So, I'm going to try to be nicer to them, without being less nice to anyone else.
  2. Be more organized and clean, at home and at work. I'm much more organized at work than I am at home and I think that's because it's easier to devote time to organizational maintenance when you don't have more fun things to do or more fun people to spend time with! I'm going to try to use the small chunks of time that I would normally waste on maintaining organization and cleanliness.
  3. Watch less television. My husband and I kind of started this in December, so I'm getting pretty good at it. I really love to watch Bones, but it's on during Holden's bedtime, so I usually end up watching it after the fact, online. I like this as I don't waste time on commercials, and I don't get bombarded with sudden wanting of things I don't need (via commercials)! I think if I find another show or two that I enjoy enough to watch every episode, I should stick with watching them online. Otherwise, I'd like to keep the tv off 95% of the time.
  4. Research lactation education and decide on a pathway to get educated and ultimately, certified. I'm passionate about helping moms reach their personal breastfeeding goals. I'm an active member of my local La Leche League and I'm the secretary of the Michigan Breastfeeding Network. I love working with both of these organizations and I want to keep working towards a more career-minded focus in this area. I feel very fulfilled when I've helped a mom nourish her baby the way she wanted to, or given someone information about breastfeeding to make a more informed choice. I'd like to feel fulfilled like that more often and I think the best way to do that would be to make it my day job!
  5. This is not me.  I should only be so lucky to look so happy and thin while running.  I will NOT look this good while running, just FYI :)
  6. Start running. I live in Michigan, so I'm not quite motivated enough to start now. I did buy myself a jogging stroller for Christmas and as soon as the cold lets up enough for me to take Holden out for an extended amount of time, I want to really start this. I love to eat and I hate to diet, so I think if I do something active, I can eat what I love without worry (or at least with less worry). Also, Holden loves being outside and I think it will be a nice chance to think about things without a lot of distractions. (To the hubs: if you went with me, it would be a good distraction, so don't think I wouldn't want you to come too!)
  7. Join or start a book club. My husband is probably on the verge of tears to think that I would become involved in something else, but I'm thinking of a possible online book club…Anyone have experience with this? I like a lot of different kinds of books, and a lot of different authors, but I would LOVE to talk about any and all of them with women (or guys, I guess). This will also, I hope, expand my reading. I already read quite a bit (for a mom) but I tend to stick with chick lit and I think reading something with other people would help broaden my horizons…Thoughts?
  8. Because my favorite number is 7, I thought 7 would be a good number of resolutions. I'd really like to work with Erin more, grow this blog, post more and create more. I'm hoping that together with the other 6 resolutions, I will get more of my ideas out there into real projects, so I can share them with YOU!
If you made it this far, thanks for listening!  What are your resolutions?  Do they involve family, parenting and personal development?  Exercise, diet and healthy living?  Something completely different?  Are they fun?  Are they hard?  Do you have one goal that you seem to recycle year after year?  For me, this was to stop drinking diet coke.  Notice it's not on the list...Sorry Martin!  It just doesn't feel good to mess that one up year after year!

Maybe you made your resolutions a little late too?  I'd love to hear from you... :)

-Heather

PS-Just to further reiterate that it is too cold to start my running resolution now, I tried finding an image of someone running in winter with a jogging stroller and google couldn't find anything in the first 5 pages that matched.  I feel vindicated - LOL!

I am checking in on you from Thelma's blog regarding the traveling shoes. I grew up in Michigan so I like your kinda peeps. It's so fun to get comments so I hope this makes you smile. Good luck with the resolutions. You can totally do it. One day at a time.

I loved reading your resolutions...when we get together in the near future maybe I will tell you mine :) What days are you off now? Is it still Mondays? Or do you have any other days they are "making" you take off in the near future?
