Little Boy Hoodie from Daddy's Shirt

I made this shirt with Lil Blue Boo's Recycled T-Shirt Hoodie Pattern.  It was a dry run for the Lil Blue Boo/Dharma Trading Company Design Challenge.  I have to say that I've tried using commercial patterns before without a lot of success...and forget about sewing with knits.  They were totally out of my league!  But, I really want(ed) to win the screenprinting kit and her patterns are so reasonably priced that I figured I'd give it a shot.  I'm SO glad I did.  I LOVE this pattern.  I went back and bought the skirt pattern (I don't have a daughter) and the leggings pattern (I still don't have a daughter) and I'm HOPING that someday Ashley will figure out how to make pattnerns this easy for adults so I can sew my own clothes!  I seriously loved it that much.

The blue and gold striped knit was my husband's shirt that was never quite long enough in the sleeves.  I rescued it from the rag pile.  The gray for the hood was part of a Fitness USA shirt I got (one of the many times I joined a gym - LOL!) that had paint on it.

I told Holden that it was Daddy's shirt and now it's his shirt, so he's super proud of it.  I have to say that I'm pretty proud of it too!  I know that you shouldn't really use stripes for a test run of a project, as they're a pain to line up, etc.  I just didn't really worry about that this time.  I figured that since it was practice, I'd just see how it came out.  I love it!  Holden loves it too.  I think my husband even loves it, much as he tries to avoid sentimentality (or at least the appearance of it).  There's something really cool about taking something that wasn't being used and making it functional.

I think this might be just the beginning of sewing and loving to sew clothes!  Maybe I can sew something other than a straight line after all!  If you're interested in trying clothing and you've felt like a big loser with commercial patterns, try out any of the Lil Blue Boo patterns.  They're awesome!

Can I please have the camera now Mom?

Post Edit: I linked up to AmyLouWho's Sew & Tell.  Check out the other projects people have finished this week!
